FUE vs DHI: Which Hair Transplant Technique Is Right for You?

Both techniques extract follicles one by one — the difference lies in how grafts are placed. Here is how we decide between them.

Patients often arrive at consultation having read that one technique is ‘the best’. In practice, FUE and DHI share the same extraction step; they differ in implantation. Understanding that difference makes the decision far simpler.

What they have in common

In both methods, follicular units are harvested individually from the donor area using micro-punches, leaving small dispersed marks rather than a linear scar. Donor management, hairline design and aftercare are essentially identical.

Where they differ

Classic FUE creates recipient sites first, then places grafts with forceps. DHI loads each graft into an implanter pen and creates the site and places the graft in one motion, allowing fine control of angle and depth and reducing the time grafts spend outside the body.

How we choose

  • Large sessions across the crown and mid-scalp: FUE is often more efficient.
  • Hairline and temple work, or unshaven procedures: DHI’s precision can be an advantage.
  • Adding density between existing hairs: DHI may reduce trauma to native follicles.

The technique matters less than the planning, the hands performing it and the care taken with each graft. Book a free consultation and we will recommend the approach that suits you — and explain why.
