Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the most widely performed hair transplant technique today. Individual follicular units are harvested one by one from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp and placed into the thinning or balding areas. Because there is no strip incision, healing is quicker and the donor area recovers with only tiny, well-dispersed marks.
Who Is FUE Hair Transplant For?
- Male or female pattern hair loss with a stable donor area
- Receding hairline, thinning crown or widening parting
- People who prefer short hairstyles and want to avoid a linear scar
- Repair of previous transplants (assessed case by case)
Suitability is confirmed only after a consultation and examination with Dr. Naresh Wadhwa.

How FUE Hair Transplant Works
Assessment & planning
Scalp examination, hair-loss staging, donor density mapping and a realistic graft plan agreed with you.
Hairline design
Your hairline is drawn with you in a mirror, respecting facial proportions, age and future hair-loss patterns.
Extraction
Follicular units are harvested with fine micro-punches under local anaesthesia and kept in a chilled holding solution.
Implantation
Recipient sites are created at the correct angle and direction and grafts are placed to mimic natural growth.
Recovery & Aftercare
Mild swelling and small crusts are expected in the first week. Transplanted hairs typically shed between weeks 2–6 (“shock shedding”) before new growth begins. Most people return to desk work within 2–3 days and to exercise after about two weeks. Final density is generally assessed at 12–15 months.

FUE Hair Transplant FAQs
Is FUE hair transplant painful?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Most patients describe mild discomfort during the numbing injections and little to no pain afterwards; simple analgesics usually suffice for the first day or two.
Will there be scarring?
FUE leaves tiny dot marks in the donor area that are generally not noticeable once hair is around 3–4 mm long. There is no linear scar as with the older strip (FUT) technique.
How many grafts will I need?
This depends on the area to be covered, your hair characteristics and your donor supply. A typical hairline and frontal restoration may need 1,500–3,000 grafts; this is estimated properly only at consultation.
Is the result permanent?
Transplanted follicles come from areas that are genetically resistant to pattern hair loss and are expected to keep growing long term. Native hair can continue to thin, which is why a maintenance plan is usually recommended.
